Saints ahead of the game in drafting the new model tight end ~Nick Rothschild, Cover 32
~He may still be realizing his potential, but there is no doubt in my mind that Jimmy Graham is the best all time Saints’ draft pick at tight end.
The numbers speak for themselves; in four years with the Saints Graham has been over 1,200 yards and 11 touchdowns in two seasons. Remember, this is all coming from a guy who had never played football before his final year at the University of Miami.

Lt. Gen. Russell Honore blasts state lawmakers for environmental damage, but downplays chance of run for governor ~Robert Morris, Uptown Messenger
“What our ancestors fought for was the human right that everybody would have access to clean water, clean air and safe food,” Honore said. “That is under assault every day.”
Louisiana Water Festival, Baton Rouge, La. March 8, 2014

~Green Army Event, Louisiana Water Festival, State Capital Grounds, Baton Rouge March 8, 2014, 1 to 3 pm Speakers: Russell L. Honore (Ret), LA Green Army; John Barry, Restore Louisiana Now; Marylee Orr, LEAN; Sandy Rosenthal, Levees.org; Jonathan Henderson, GRN; Darryl Malek-Wiley, Sierra Club; Louisiana League of Women Voters; Louisiana Progress; Deep South Center for Environmental Justice and others. Everybody is invited.
What is the GreenARMY? Five days after the floodwalls in New Orleans broke during Katrina US Army General Russell Honore and the Louisiana National Guard were allowed to enter the city, restore order, and start recovery operations. The General was able to get things done despite the inadequate national, state and local political leadership in place at the time, and despite the immensity of the disaster. We have another huge disaster that unfolds every day. That is the continuing destruction of our coastal environment and our water quality caused by unregulated and exploitative oil and gas extraction in Louisiana and its coastal waters. Retired General Honore has chosen to lead a broad coalition of environmental and community organizations in drawing attention to these issues and in forming a legislative agenda to tackle the problems. The GreenARMY event on March 8 is a chance for us to show support for the General and for holding big industry accountable for damage to our water and coastal resources. Please join us on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the Louisiana State Capital.

Former mayor Morial fires back at Nagin over ‘Batphone’ ~New Orleans Advocate
~Morial, now president of the National Urban League, said the phone was designed to stay active even when power and regular phone service went down. Nagin’s on-the-stand joke, Morial said, “got under my skin because Katrina was nothing to play around with. The way he handled it — (President George W.) Bush and (Gov. Kathleen) Blanco, too — made New Orleans the laughingstock of the country.” Had Nagin picked up the phone instead of ridiculing it, Morial added, “he might have learned something.”

Levee-board reformers worry that Bobbly Jindal is bringing politics back into process ~Bob Marshall, The Lens~Last month, Jay Lapeyre, the leader of the nominating committee for the local flood authority, received a letter from Garret Graves, head of Gov. Bobby Jindal’s coastal office. It said two previous nominees from the committee were ineligible, and it asked that Lapeyre reconvene the panel and send more names up.
One of those rejected is the authority’s president and supporter of its controversial lawsuit against oil and gas companies the governor opposes.
The letter concluded: “It is important to note that we have no intention of circumventing the nominations committee’s role in this appointment.”
Lapeyre isn’t so sure. Asked whether the governor is now directing the process, he answered quickly: “Yes, definitely.”

Rejoice, rejoice! We have no choice… (Part 1) ~moosedenied~Welp. Welcome to another offseason, bitches. Might wanna grab yourself a drink and settle in for a while, because we're about to go all TL;DR on your asses. Even moreso than usual, that is.
WARNING: There will be math. Lots and lots of math. Lies, damn lies, advanced lies and statistics (both advanced and remedial.) We will also be pulling some things straight out of our asses and asking you to accept it as credible analysis. So while we eagerly await what are sure to be incredibly entertaining 2013 post-mortem pieces from our friends over at SaintsWin, AngryWhoDat and the Yellow Blog, let's try to get our money's worth out of that PFF subscription and see if we can't figure out just what the hell happened in 2013 and the manner in which we should carry on from here. Hope you brought your commemorative plain white towels, because we're also gonna go for a new record for longest moosedenied post ever. We're about to go Full Grantland up in this bitch! High five?

GreenARMY Plans "Louisiana Water Festival" ~Jeremy Alford, LaPolitics
http://gogreenarmy.com/
~Russel HonorĂ©, the retired Army lieutenant general turned activist, said he’s working to get 10,000 people to show up at the State Capitol on March 8, two days before the regular session kicks off. The gathering is being called “The Louisiana Water Festival” and will help preview the package of environmental justice bills HonorĂ© and his so-called “Green Army” will be pushing during the session. “We’re going through the application process now to use the grounds,” he said. “But this is not about disobedience. This is about celebration and information. Water is the strength of our state and without clean, fresh water the whole of Louisiana becomes a different state and different culture. We’ve never had a problem with water, but now it’s at an emergency status in some places.”

Live blog: Lawyers suing oil & gas industry to appear before Jindal's CPRA Koch Suckers ~Bob Marshall, The Lens
~The Lens will live-blog what could be a wetlands’ version of “High Noon” at Wednesday’s meeting of the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority. Attorneys for the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East say they have accepted an invitation from coastal chief Koch Sucker Garret Graves to present their client’s case for its controversial lawsuit against oil and gas companies for coastal land loss – which Graves strongly opposes.

Dear Editilla,

Opposition to the Big Oil Lawsuit has not been quashed yet.

At the last meeting in December, members of the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East were criticized for filing this historic lawsuit.

http://restorelouisiananow.org/ The suit demands that the oil and gas industry fix the damage it caused to our coast.

We need to show the SLFPA-E board members that we are still here in strong support.

It is critical that we continue to show our support for the Big Oil Lawsuit. #SLFPAElawsuit
WHAT: Board Meeting
WHEN: Thursday, January 16th, 9:30 AM
WHERE: 2nd Floor Council Chambers, Joseph Yenni Bldg,
1221 Elmwood Park Blvd., Harahan, LA.

Please join me on Thursday morning. I'll meet you at the door and give you a big lapel button.

Thank you for your support. With your help, we are winning.
