~Three decades ago conservationists scored back-to-back landmark victories over the federal steamroller in the form of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Both battles were in Arkansas - the fight against damming of the Buffalo River and the fight against channelizing the Cache River.
Today we have the Buffalo National River, heavily used by recreationists, and the Cache River National Wildlife Refuge, a work in progress that is used by hunters and recreationists including birders.
