Sen. David Vitter Objects Promotion Of New Army Corps of Engineers Chief
~"I have been talking to the Corps about very specific instances in which they have virtually vetoed critical protection projects actually mandated by Congress - like Morganza to the Gulf - through bureaucratic games. So far, their response has been largely more of the same," said Vitter.
"It's just like the 14 critical deadlines they've missed since Katrina and Rita. So I decided that the Corps leadership should be impacted by their own mistakes and delays just like Louisianians have for years."

Northeast Hit With Devastating Floods, As Federal Flood Insurance Expires Due To GOP Obstruction~According to the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America, there are 5.5 million flood insurance policy holders in flood plains, and as of this week, homeowners were rendered unable to renew their policies.
If any of those homeowners were victims of the current flooding, they will “face complications” filing claims.

~Also~this from Thursday's Humid Beings
~Editilla Rotellas~We just spoke to the director of this upcoming film, James Demaria, about its connections to the Treme, the upcoming David Simon series (or not), as well as the Karmaphor of their planning this 2nd Line well before the passing of chief Treme Writer David Mills this week. As you all can imagine, there is some spiritual overlap as with so much about our City of Living Metaphor. Thus, nobody's got the only ticket to ride here.
Editilla found James Demaria very open and Cool As All Get Out.
Contact him and say Thanks Youz. As Gentle'rillas can well imagine, Mr Demaria is fielding tons of questions on this subject, with great concern as to any confusion between these 2 Distinctly Different Complimentary Artistic Tributes of Life in the Treme.
We have only this to say: Go Check Out Their Website.
Make sure to hit the Big Arrow at the bottom and peruse the photography. Kermit Ruffins is Herollero to Editilla. We've eaten his BBQ, smoked his weed and loved his music for years.
If Kermit is involved in something, then we will want to see it and hear it, and I think you all will too.
What about a Parade for David Mills in New Orleans?

Concerned Citzens Around Murphy said...

Another Hurricane Season Is Just Around the Corner, Yet St Bernard Parish Residents fear the Murphy Oil Meraux Refinery is ill prepared.

Two not uncommon rain events in 2009 illustrate the problem, as one event in June '09 flooded a neighborhood and the other event in December '09 discharged oil in another neighborhood canal.

What- if anything- is being done in the next 60 days to protect the community during tropical weather and hurricanes ? Should a corporation be allowed to operate without the capacity to handle rain ?

June 2009 Event around four minute mark....

June 2009 rain event in Southeast Louisiana causes refinery to flood. (around 4:14 mark)
Murphy Oil's Meraux refinery unable to contain its own storm water, which overflows onto adjacent ExxonMobil pipeline easement, used as non-compliant parking lot , which floods neighborhood canal, overflowing into residential yards and street.

While residents wait for local code enforcement and other common sense remedies, Murphy Oil discharges oil in neighborhood canal, December 2009 . Check out this slideshow on Photobucket Link:

I just read your comment over on Slimbo's blog and had to come over here to tell you that you're story about the crows left me with chills. Devastatingly sad, I love pigeons myself, but you have a gift for telling a story. Not that I should be surprised, I've found that people from New Orleans have a natural talent for it.

Do you have some people in your life that make you talk more to them than you might otherwise to someone else?

There are certain bloggers that are like that for me. Nothing on purpose, not like they Do anything in particular.
I don't know how to describe it, but by their own work they make others wanna talk more, or perhaps Think more,,, or maybe...whateva.

Slimbolala is one of those.
