Corps says West Bank flood protection system completed ~Jeff Adelson, The Advocate NO
~“The West Bank in particular has experienced a significant increase
in protection,” Jefferson Parish President John Young said Monday. But
as officials cut the ribbon on the project in front of the white
floodwalls that guard the far edge of the West Bank system, local flood
protection officials and representatives of the state’s Coastal
Protection and Restoration Authority were conspicuously absent. Those
agencies, which are charged with maintaining and overseeing flood
protection efforts in the area, said they skipped what they saw as a
premature celebration. “There is no goal line that has been crossed,” Coastal Restoration and Protection Authority Chairman Garret Graves said. “None.”
