Thad Allen decides to just lie about Dispersant Use
~"I'm satisfied we only use them when they are needed," Allen said.
Documents released by a congressional subcommittee found that Coast Guard officials allowed BP to use hundreds of thousands of gallons of chemical dispersant in the Gulf despite a federal directive to use them rarely.

~Editilla Notellas~Re-posted from yesterday's Ladder, in honor of it's placement on counterpunch. We've read this article half a dozen times now, some of the best blogging I've ever seen, up there with American Zombie, slabbed, Squandered Heritage, Library Chronicles and the abandoned, orphaned on the side of the Internet Super Highway Right Hand Thief just to name a few.
Despite their fear of yer'ho so humble Editilla as blogzerker, and the sound of scraping glass in their inner ear when they here us say it, we'd nominate Darwin for an Ashley on this post alone. (--an'if'n we weren't so in'fo moosedenied:)

~I bet you the people in Alaska are really pissed off right now. The Exxon Valdez spill happened in 1989 and they are still cleaning up 21 years later. The Deepwater Horizon spill leaked for months and was supposed to be even bigger than the Exxon Valdez and yet magically the oil on the Gulf Coast appears to be disappearing in record time.

Flood plain maps hit FEMA wall
~Michael S. Smith, the county fire and emergency services director, said the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers designed and oversaw construction of the levees, has inspected them every year and says they are being properly maintained and operated. But the Federal Emergency Management Agency does not accept that and wants the levees independently certified, he said.
"FEMA does not talk to the Corps of Engineers, which in my mind is kind of dumbfounding," Smith said Friday.

"This is a test....

"For the next 90 days [years], this Coast Guard Station in voluntary conjunction with oil companies [BP execs and other Big People] in your area will conduct a test of the Emergency Oil-spill [hiding] System. This is only a test [snicker snicker]"

Bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!

If this had been an actual oil emergency, you would have been instructed to tune to the Coast Guard stations in your area for information...

"This Coast Guard station serves the [oil companies of the] Gulf Coast. This concludes this test of the Emergency Oil-spill [hiding] System."
