Moving on and movin’ along: LSU fills van Heerden’s old position, Ivor signs with BP and where is Tim Whitmer these days? ~slabbed
~Editilla just gotta toll'ya~ I’ve read too much Kafka to have any patience with that sort of behavior. BP may very well simply Buy-off all the "experts" on Contract, thus silencing them. Aside from the abject heartbreak that he may have totally sold out, what bothers me the most right now about Van Heerden’s spoken statements on National Radio is that, in doing so, he is Tainting the Juries for inevitable BP Liability Lawsuits.
These settlements and fines will be based on Barrels spilled and Coasts impacted, as per the Exxon Valdez settlements.
Hey, Scientific Ambiguity has worked swell for Big Tobacco and Big Pharma. I have come up with a new term for the likes of BP:
Preternational Corporation.
What bothers me the most (and I can't say this enough) about Van Heerden's public statements, to wit: he is engaging in Jury Tainting for BP plain and simple. He is grossly underestimating the impact of this oil crime, which will definitely matter in court when everyone needs to eat BP.
That really bothers me. It isn't as much that he has to work. Hell everyone in South Louisiana it seems must now work for BP after our President allowed them to take charge of our assfucking.
So he's gotta work as a coastal scientist, but Why is Van Heerden doing Press Tours for BP and the Oil Industry, while everyone else from sick clean-up workers to beach tourists are CENSORED from even taking cell phone pics of the coasts????
Why? How can Ivor van Heerden speak to the Press and yet none of the rest of the citizenry actually impacted by this crime that Van Heerden says is "OVERSTATED"???
I still can't get my mind around that. Ivor van Heerden...
I just can't do the et tu Judas thing. It hurts too much.
But my sense of abject betrayal by someone I threw it all for is Nothing compared to the pain our coast will feel as a result of this bull shit. That is what really bothers me.
The babies who will be born into this hell with defects, the grain belt stained by the blood of this black swan, our people with their 100 year stares. The Pelican, blinded by the gobs of oil that Van Heerden has said is only on "tens of miles" of coastline. The Devil is actually an honest dealer. This is another Contract all together.

~Amidst additional news that British Petroleum has been slow or negligent in the release of flow data and videos of the catastrophic rupture of the Transocean/Deepwater Horizon wellhead in the Gulf of Mexico, there is another story that is crying for attention. A revered Chief of the Chahta Indians, the youngest brother of the Neville Brothers Band, and a Catholic nun know the stories of the dispossessed Indians, shrimpers, fishermen and women, oysterers and business owners deep in the wetlands and bayous of south Louisiana. Oil Spill Pensacola Florida and BP Gas Station Protesting
~Those in Pensacola Florida are outraged about tar balls washing up on their sugar sand beaches. Many Floridians are taking to BP gas stations and protesting about the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Even though the outrage is understandable, there’s something that many just don’t understand – when they protest and vandalize BP Gas stations in the US, chances are they are doing very little to hurt BP.

Why is Ivor van Heerden now a BP News Media Spokesman?
~He's at it again, this morning on NPR.
Scientific Ambiguity, as a PR Tool, has already worked so well for Big Tobacco, Big Pharma and Big Oil --but you have to have a renowned and (now formerly) respected "Scientist" who is willing to spin the broken record.
In a brilliant tactical PR move by BP Unified Command, this weekend, he was "placed" with a boat load of Press on Grand Terre Island to counter the blisteringly horrid photographs of pelicans gobbed in thick oil on Grand Terre Island --just days before. Sooo, now Ivor van Heerden is the Press Go-To Guy?
Why can't he just Do Science instead of doing Press Statements?
Well, since the Press is censored from speaking to sick Clean-up Workers, or anyone else under contract with BP, I find it Bizarre Irony that this man --himself under contract with BP-- would sue to get his job back from LSU after alleging they fired him for Speaking To The Press!
Considering the incredible Funding Influence BP (and the Oil Industry writ large) exerts on LSU, perhaps we are beginning to see the carrot they are dangling before this Waskly Wabbit. ~~~WTF Up, Doc?

~But Ivor van Heerden says all of this impact has been "overstated"!
When Editilla considers the damage done by Ivor van Heerden in his doing Press Tours for BP and saying on NPR that the "oil impact on Louisiana has been overstated, that it is only tens of miles" I just want to put my heart on a grill, cook it and hand- feed it to him with an ice pick.

Ivor van Heerden works for BP? -UPDATE-5:30 pm: I did call Polaris Applied Sciences, with whom Van Heerden is employed and who is under contract with BP. I was told they are free to speak to the Press. They will however get back to me on how Van Heerden came to make these statements to the nation from Grand Terre Island: "The damage from the oil coming ashore is overstated", "The oil has impacted only tens of miles" ~NPR, June 5th, 2010.
~~15 minutes after I called and spoke to Gary Mauseth one of Van Heerden's bosses at Polaris, I get a call from Coast Guard Unified Command Public Affairs, a 3rd Class Petty Officer named Jonathan Lowery who just came on the scene 2 days ago from his duty station in Alaska. I wondered why the caller ID said Juneau, AK, 907-321-4176. (Duty Phone)
He wanted to know what questions I had for Polaris Applied Sciences (so he could provide me with the answers)
Riiiight! Everyone knows Unified Command has "BP answers".
Their BP Logo used to be all over the website, but as I watched this site change layouts no less than 5 times it has devolved to this. Everyone knows not to call BP Coast Guard Unified Command if you need answers or any actionable information!
Stunned and incredulous, my first question was (after why the hell am I talking to Public Affairs?): is Polaris allowed to speak to the Press? Answer: I'll get back to you.
2nd question
: How much oil to-date has impacted the Louisiana Coast? Answer: I'll get back to you.
3rd question
: How did Van Heerden come to say "Tens of Miles impacted"? Answer: No Answer. (He'll have to get that data?)
4th question: if you can't tell me how many miles of coast have been impacted by the oil, then how can Van Heerden say that the impact has been "overstated"? Answer: No Answer.
5th question: Why is Public Affairs calling me with answers to questions I put to the source of these statements? Answer: they are part all of the Unified Command Structure which speaks through Joint Information Center, or UCSJIC. I'm not kidding!
In short, I tried to call the source of this Court Settlement-friendly information that Ivor van Heerden told the nation yesterday, that the "impact of this oil on Louisiana's coast has been overstated", and they sicked a 25 yr old punk flack-catcher PR Hack on me from Coast Guard Unified Command who just arrived on the job June 4th, doesn't know Shit from ShiNola and hasn't even been down to the coast yet. Fucking Hell!
I called the scientists. They sent me a PR Hack. Are we not men?
Oh, and now that it appears that Ivor van Heerden is into the Jury-Tainting Business with BP, I sincerely hope that our readership may include his own jury in his own case against LSU, which he has requested to be expedited before October.
Of course, given the copious funding LSU receives from BP and the Oil Industry writ large, we are beginning to wonder if this is how Van Heerden seeks to get his job back, to wit: covering for BP before Their Liability Trials.

Gulf Conservationists Challenge Phony BP Oil Disaster Cleanup Plan~Gulf Restoration Network
~Earthjustice filed suit today in federal court against the U.S. Minerals Management Service challenging the agency’s arbitrary approval of BP’s oil spill clean-up plan. The clean up plan was approved in July 2009 prior to the approval of the exploratory drilling plan. If successful, this legal challenge will result in a court ruling that Minerals Management Service’s approval of BP’s spill cleanup plan was illegal and a new plan needs to be crafted and approved before BP can do any more exploratory oil drilling.

It continues: "The testimony cannot possibly be factual when the defendant then turned right around and hired a brand new faculty member in the same rank as plaintiff and even gave him tenure. ... BP oil spill: Will the 'sweeping arm system' from the Dutch help?~In a press conference Tuesday, BP Adm. Thad 'The Impaler' Allen would neither confirm nor deny that the technology would be used in the Gulf oil spill. Allen would only say that recovery officials were “reaching out to the Netherlands, Canada, and Mexico” for technology assistance. “We’re looking at all sources,” he said. (America says riiight, Tony, erruh, Thad)
Dutch companies that manufacture the sweeping arm system first contacted BP officials April 23, three days after the Deepwater Horizon explosion, according to Mr. Huisman, who spoke by phone from his office in The Hague Tuesday.
After receiving little reply, the companies turned to his department for help in reaching out to the US State Department, Huisman says.

Gulf of Mexico - Time To Get Serious About Routine Satellite Monitoring ~SkyTruth
~The ongoing Deepwater Horizon oil spill has provided a rare scientific opportunity: for the first time, multiple satellite remote-sensing systems, from visible to infrared to radar, are providing daily images of a large area in the Gulf of Mexico. This systematic imaging is proving useful for measuring the size and location of oil slicks and sheen, and for estimating the rate of leakage from BP's failed Macondo well.
It's also demonstrating another important ability -- here at SkyTruth we think we've discovered a small but possibly chronic leak from an oil platform located a few miles off the Mississippi Delta, unrelated to but not far from BP's leaking well.

~This image, acquired on May 24, 2010 by the Multi-angle Imaging SpectroRadiometer (MISR) instrument aboard NASA's Terra spacecraft, shows oil from the former Deepwater Horizon rig encroaching upon several of Louisiana's wildlife habitats.
The source of the spill is located off the southeastern (bottom right) edge of the image. The left-hand image contains data from the nadir (vertical-viewing) camera, and is shown in near-true color except that data from the near-infrared band, where vegetation appears bright, has been blended with the green band to enhance the appearance of vegetation. The Mississippi River delta is located below image center. The slick is seen approaching the delta from the lower right, and filaments of oil are also apparent further to the north (towards the top). The oil is made visible by sunglint off the sea surface. Oil is known to have a damping effect on surface waves, making the surface look brighter under these viewing conditions than it would if the oil were not present. However, other factors can also cause enhanced glint, such as reduced surface wind speed. To separate glint patterns due to oil from these other factors, additional information from MISR's cameras is used in the right-hand image.

It's really undeniable
To tell the truth's not viable
If we are not lieable
We're liable to be triable
And found financially liable
...Maybe [gulp] even hogtieable.

Director James Cameron says BP turned down help offer
~Film director and deep-sea explorer James Cameron said on Wednesday that BP Plc turned down his offer to help combat the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
"Over the last few weeks I've watched, as we all have, with growing horror and heartache, watching what's happening in the Gulf and thinking those morons don't know what they're doing," Cameron said at the All Things Digital technology conference. Cameron, the director of "Avatar" and "Titanic," has worked extensively with robot submarines and is considered an expert in undersea filming. He did not say explicitly who he meant when he referred to "those morons." His comments came a day after he participated in a meeting at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency headquarters in Washington to "brainstorm" solutions to the oil spill.

Gaylord Opryland takes steps to recover $225 million in flood costs~During a one-hour conference call with Wall Street analysts on Wednesday, Gaylord CEO and Chairman Colin Reed stopped short of suggesting the hotel chain would sue the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers or other agencies, but he said authorities sent him flawed forecasts just hours before the flood topped levees around the property and endangered hotel guests and staff in early May. Legal analysts say suing the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is a tricky business that rarely succeeds. New Orleans attorney Chris D'Amour of the Adams and Reese law firm said the MRGO case is one of the few times the Corps of Engineers' general immunity to lawsuits after floods has been breached, and it required a massive legal effort.
