~“The West Bank in particular has experienced a significant increase in protection,” Jefferson Parish President John Young said Monday. But as officials cut the ribbon on the project in front of the white floodwalls that guard the far edge of the West Bank system, local flood protection officials and representatives of the state’s Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority were conspicuously absent. Those agencies, which are charged with maintaining and overseeing flood protection efforts in the area, said they skipped what they saw as a premature celebration. “There is no goal line that has been crossed,” Coastal Restoration and Protection Authority Chairman Garret Graves said. “None.”
