But in New Orleans, it's an occasion that is met with slightly more fanfare compared to other places around the world.
All Saints Day also bears significance for the New Orleans area for another reason. On November 1, 1966, the NFL awarded an expansion franchise, later named the Saints, to the city.

~A New Orleans hiker says she's about to reach her initial goal of planting 2,175 trees in the city following Hurricane Katrina. Hike for KaTREEna is the not-for-profit started by Monique Pilie. After Katrina, she hiked the Appalachian Trail and pledged to plant one tree in the city for each of the 2,175 miles she hiked. That last tree is set to be planted Thursday afternoon. With the initial goal reached, the group says it now hopes to plant another 100,000 trees in New Orleans.

First ‘anti-noose’ law arrest made --over LSU/Georgia Rivalry!

Drummer, a Georgia fan, said Parent (LSU) told him if Georgia won the game, Parent would have a “big surprise” for him on Monday. About an hour after arriving at work Monday, Drummer looked down and saw a large rope noose hanging from his workbench in his office, at 4346 Jeffrey Lane, he said. Drummer, who is black, said while he knew the noose was never intended for his neck, he was upset by its symbolism. When confronted about the noose, Parent, who is white, laughed, as did some of the other co-workers, Drummer said. Drummer said he only called authorities after his immediate supervisor said the noose was not a big deal. “How can you figure this is nothing? This is something that people died over,” Drummer said. “Black, white, pink or green, you should take offense to a noose, period.”

Galveston is in ruins, and a post-Katrina nation is unmoved ~Amy Wilson~An American town, not as glamorous as New Orleans but as interesting in many ways, is going under.
Its people are living in makeshift shelters or other people's extra second-floor bedrooms. Its churches are still feeding hundreds of meals a day, free to anyone who comes by.
Its shelters are about to close but are still full.
Its stores — if you don't count the two big groceries,
the Home Depot and the car repair shops — are trying to figure out how to open for a few hours, if at all.
Its tourist business is hard to imagine.
It has, essentially, no economy to help it off its knees and no press machine to call attention to its woes.
The trash, one debris company contractor told the local paper, will probably take two years to scrape off the streets.

My subject is three myths which are common in engineering ethics: (a) that the earliest codes of engineering ethics put loyalty to one's client or employer ahead of the public interest; (b) that engineering codes of ethics should be mere (moral) guidelines rather than (legalistic) rules; and (c) that codes of engineering ethics are too vague to provide much guidance. Perhaps the only thing that these myths have in common is that they are all too common in discussions of engineering ethics, but I think they have more in common than that - they seem to be mutually enforcing.

Hi New Orleans News Ladder,
you've been sent the following by a Chowhound moderator:

Sorry, but your posts were removed because we don't permit the use of our message boards to publicize even good causes and non-profit events.

We're 100 percent behind the effort to support what sounds like a great organization, but we cannot allow announcements about the event on our site. You see, if we allow you to do it, we've got to allow everyone to do it,
(Oh God Forbid!) and we have neither the time nor the resources to vet events or groups in order to decide what's a worthy cause or chowtastic event, and what's unworthy or offensive or scammy--or just plain commercial hype.
(Editilla Notellas~It took me more time to contact "vet" the subject of Chowhound's bite, the Kitchen at Colton, than it did for Chowhound to pull our posts and contact me with this missive... all of 30 seconds!)

As you know, we strive to make Chowhound a non-commercial place where people can freely exchange chow tips without wading through ads or agenda-driven hype, or hype of any kind, for that matter. Unfortunately, this means we must exclude the good along with the bad. We appreciate your understanding our position.

I do not understand why Chowhound has pulled my post on The Kitchen at Colton, or why they pulled my comment referring this eater to that fine effort, or why they disallowed my enthusiastic Kudoes for The Hooka Cafe's owner's offer / recommendation which still stands btw.
This is sudden and rude in its procedural disaffection.
I have always just enjoyed Chowhound and see nothing in my posts to have warranted this action.
I do not understand.

I thought we were supposed to celebrate the thing here...

It is with great regret that I pull all links to Chowhound from my own daily blog ala Groucho Marx.
I just wanted to have fun here, nothing else.
